There have been many accounts of paranormal activity within this historic building in recent years, including regular shouts of ‘hello’ to the owner when she is working, salt has been spilt on more than one occasion and disembodied voices heard. A more eerie paranormal incident was during a planchette session when one of our guests had the zip on her jacket pulled down which was witnessed by those around the table. Soft breezes blowing on faces have also been recorded. Guests who have stayed at the cottage during the Christmas period have reported a door being flung open on two separate occasions which spooked them. Moans and loud sighs are heard within the building.
What do the spirits want to tell us?
With many original features, low doorways, ceilings and a mysterious handprint on the wall of the butcher’s room, what will we find? Join us as we peel back the layers of this never before investigated venue.
The history Cawood is known for its once magnificent castle that was the principal palace of the Archbishop’s of York and where royalty have stayed. The cottage lies near the boundary of Cawood Castle with the castle wall visible from the back of the building. It is rich in history and steeped in mystery… Who has stepped through the door of the butcher’s shop? Mill Race Cottage has over 350 years of history and within the shop section, animals were kept and fed prior to slaughter in the very same room. The shop front still has a wide sill for the displaying of meat. What energy lies within this room with the original butcher’s hooks still hanging from the beams? There is also a history of deaths within the cottage in rooms still used today.
